Course objectives
Pedagogy of Family is based on characteristics of contemporary family in the present day society and its basic functions. It primarily focuses on the educational – socializing – function. It studies family organization and atmosphere that are best suited the accomplishment of the educational function. It also deals with circumstances that complicate or preclude it, notorious phenomena such as divorce, incomplete family, parents’ employment, youth parenting, alcoholism, educational disunity in more generational families, etc. It pays special attention to families with children of all group ages, as well as adult-only families. Among other topics, there are introduction of several possible models of family education, issues of communication and collaboration between families and schools, as well as position of the state in relation to a family: to parents’ duty to take care of children and to children’s duty to take care of parents when adult. Students will learn about current theoretical and empirical approaches to contemporary family issues and will discuss them in panel discussion, in which they will express their opinions.
