Course objectives
Learning outcomes.
After this five-days excursion to the Brno surroundings, students should be able:
to identify vascular plants in the field;
to distinguish related species;
to understand ecological and phytogeographical characteristics of species of the Czech flora.
Syllabus
  • Field work in various environments: steppic graslands, rocks, various types of forests, vegetation on river and pond banks, mesophilous and wet meadows, weeds, ruderal vegetation. Differences between the vegetation and species diversity on basic and acidic substrates. Methods of plant collection and conservation. Introduction to the flora and vegetation of the Podyjí National Park, thesurroundings of Mohelno in southwestern Moravia or in the Protected Landscape Area White Carpathians and their conservation.

Teaching methods
One week (five days) of field trips in late May, usually in botanically interesting landscape such as the Podyjí National Park, the Bílé Karpaty Protected Landscape Area the surroundings of Mohelno in southwestern Moravia.
Assessment methods
Test of knowledge of plant species during the last field trip (10 or 20 species), graded credit.
