Course objectives

The aim of the course is a) to teach students to solve complex professional and research problems in the fields of business, management or business informatics using scholary publications and primary and secondary data; b) to teach students to think critically about existing scientific knowledge and data obtained using various research methods. In the short term, the course helps students write a quality master thesis. From a long-term perspective, it prepares them to work with new knowledge in the field and to solve new problems in various positions in companies or in research.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students will be able to:
- design a method to obtain valid primary data useful for solving a research or managerial problem,
- select an appropriate sample to draw valid conclusions for the enterprise or for a selected population of enterprises or individuals,
- use primary data or previously published findings to solve a research or managerial problem,
- evaluate the costs and economic benefits of own proposals,
- adhere to the rules of research and publication ethics.

Syllabus

• Teaching takes place in three forms. The first is writing a thesis under the supervision of a consultant. The second form consists of reading the textbook and recommended literature on the methodology of social science research and solving of professional problems in the fields of business and management. The third form consists of records from seminars for full-time students and of two tutorials with possibility to consult key topics with teachers from Department of corporate Economy.

Course objectives

The aim of the course is a) to teach students to solve complex professional and research problems in the fields of business, management or business informatics using scholary publications and primary and secondary data; b) to teach students to think critically about existing scientific knowledge and data obtained using various research methods. In the short term, the course helps students write a quality master thesis. From a long-term perspective, it prepares them to work with new knowledge in the field and to solve new problems in various positions in companies or in research.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students will be able to:
- design a method to obtain valid primary data useful for solving a research or managerial problem,
- select an appropriate sample to draw valid conclusions for the enterprise or for a selected population of enterprises or individuals,
- use primary data or previously published findings to solve a research or managerial problem,
- evaluate the costs and economic benefits of own proposals,
- adhere to the rules of research and publication ethics.

Syllabus

• Teaching takes place in three forms. The first is writing a thesis under the supervision of a consultant. The second form consists of reading the textbook and recommended literature on the methodology of social science research and solving of professional problems in the fields of business and management. The third form consists of records from seminars for full-time students and of two tutorials with possibility to consult key topics with teachers from Department of corporate Economy.

Assessment methods

Outputs from the course are a) final test and b) half of the text of the thesis.
The test is based on the content of seminars that are available in Interactive syllabus. The test is written online via IS, has multiple-choice questions, and the students are allowed to use any literature and their notes when writing. To successfully complete the test, the students should get at least 40% of points.

The credits are awarded by the supervisor of the thesis. Credit will be awarded to a student if the student a) passes the test, b) submits a part of his / her thesis.
The student should submit about half of the thesis, after at least one consultation. The expected range and the exact deadline are agreed with the supervisor at the beginning of the semester.

Lectures, solving model problems, learning by doing (writing a thesis), feedback and mentoring (from the supervisor)

Assessment methods

Outputs from the course are a) final test and b) half of the text of the bachelor thesis.
The test is based on the content of lectures. The test is written online via IS, has multiple-choice questions, and the students are allowed to use any literature and their notes when writing. To successfully complete the test, the students should get at least 40% of points.

The credits are awarded by the supervisor of the thesis. Credit will be awarded to a student if the student a) passes the test, b) submits a part of his/her thesis.
The student should submit about half of the thesis. The expected range and the exact deadline are agreed with the supervisor at the beginning of the semester.

Course objectives

The aim of the course is a) to teach students to solve complex professional and research problems in the fields of business, management or business informatics using scholary publications and primary and secondary data; b) to teach students to think critically about existing scientific knowledge and data obtained using various research methods. In the short term, the course helps students write a quality master thesis. From a long-term perspective, it prepares them to work with new knowledge in the field and to solve new problems in various positions in companies or in research.

Learning outcomes

After completing the course, students will be able to:
- prepare a complex review of scholary publications on the topic of business, management or business informatics,
- identify problems in research designs and in conclusions of the scholary papers,
- formulate a research or managerial problem and justify the need to solve it,
- use a method for obtaining valid primary data useful for solving a research or managerial problem,
- use new data and knowledge described in scholary papers to solve research and managerial problem,
- evaluate the costs and economic benefits of their proposals,
- follow the rules of research and publication ethics.

Syllabus

• Teaching takes place in three forms. The first is writing a master thesis under the supervision of a consultant. The second form consists of reading books and listening to records of lectures on the methodology of social science research and solving of professional problems in the fields of business and management. The third form consists of three tutorials with possibility to consult key topics with teachers from Department of corporate Economy.

Cílem předmětu je realizace přípravy a první etapy řešení diplomové práce. Po absolvování předmětu student bude schopen • zvolit správnou strategii a taktiku psaní odborného textu, • osvojit si a aplikovat teorii a metody řešení předmětného problému, • podílet se dílčím způsobem na rozvoji těchto metod, • vyhledávat, zpracovávat a správně interpretovat potřebné faktografické informace, • realizovat a vyhodnotit empirické šetření, včetně doporučení, které z nich plyne, • postupovat v duchu publikační etiky, • osvojit si zásady odborného stylu psaného textu.

• Spolupráce s vedoucím DP. SAMOSTATNÉ STUDIUM doporučené literatury– časový harmonogram studia je individuálně volitelný studentem. Volba metod analýzy předmětu řešení.V případě použití empirického šetření také upřesnění formulace hypotéz nebo výzkumných otázek, jejich operacionalizace a vytvoření nástrojů empirického výzkumu. Volba výzkumného vzorku na objektu výzkumu a posouzení jeho vypovídací schopnosti. Vyhodnocení a implementace získaných poznatků v řešení DP.
