The main aim of this course is to understand and master theoretical knowledge and practical virtuosity necessary for design high-performance digital systems. The lessons are specialized in particular into the following topics:
- application of the modern design components;
- the methodology of the modular systems;
- connecting with external devices.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, students will be able to:
explain the principle of assembling powerful and functionally;
reliable digital system structures;
design a reliable digital system using contemporary design elements;
work with external devices connected to digital systems;
work with the MIPS instruction set;

Course objectives
Basic account of computing and information systems structure. Design and operational structure of computer machines. Basic principles of computer machines design. Operation principles of computer machines basic components and circuits. Structure and operations of contemporaneous computer machines design components. Fundamentals of design solving and interconnection of digital curcuits. Operational principles of basic peripheral circuits. Fundamentals and systems of basic peripheral circuits control and connecting. Modular design and expansion in capacity and functions of computer machines in accordance with mission. Handy hardware design of a computer machine core. Handy basic software design of a computer machine core. Design and simulation tools for development of computer machine hardware and software.

  • Architecture of computer machines. General structure of processors, CISC and RISC structures. Bus subsystem of computer machines. Memory subsystem of computer machine. Input and output subsystem of computer machine. Linkage hardware and operation system of computer machine. External busses subsystem. External memory subsystems. Programmable array. Single-chip computers. Design systems and simulations systems of digital systems Methodology of application job solving. Design of personal computers. Parallel computer systems.
