Course objectives
The course is focused on studying modern history of Czech educational system and educational science. The crucial topics are: development and transformations of educational institutions, teachers’ education, educational legislative etc. The special attention is paid to history of educational science as an independent discipline and its main figures from 1850 to 1950. The study of this issue is based predominantly on secondary literature and on available authentic materials. The main form (method) of learning is students’ research projects. The students apply their knowledge about historian’s work in solving concrete research projects. They will be able to conduct research in the area of education and educational science history. They should also have a basic insight into history of educational institutions and pedagogic theory in modern era (including contemporary situation) in our region. Students will be familiar with basic terminology, definitions, trends that are crucial for further studying history of Czech education and educational science. The important part of the knowledge basis consists in the issues of Czech education science in 20th century.
Learning outcomes
After completing the course, a student will be able to:
- use basic terminology and sources;
- describe trends that are crucial for further studying history of Czech education and educational science;
- analyze and describe history of educational institutions and pedagogic theory in modern era (including contemporary situation) in our region/country;
- apply their knowledge about historian’s work in solving concrete research projects;
- conduct research in the area of education and educational science history;
