Course objectives
The aim of this course is to extend the basics of animal cell biology to the practical applications, especially in reproductive medicine, biological therapy for cancer, or regenerative medicine. Certain methodological approaches used in research as well as in practice will be discussed in detail.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the students should be able:
- to understand in detail the specific aspects of applied animal cell biology (including human cells);
- to explain the principles of main methodological approaches to the animal cells;
- to interpret the practical applications of this knowledge in selected areas of medicine.
Syllabus
  • 1) STUDY OF ANIMAL CELLS UNDER IN VITRO CONDITIONS: development of cell cultivation in vitro, culture conditions for mammalian and human cells in vitro, types of cell cultures, biological features of normal and transformed cell lines, practical applications, archiving and cell culture collections;
  • 2) IN VITRO METHODS FOR STUDYING OF CELL LIFE AND DEATH: types of cell death, apoptosis, methodological approaches for apoptosis studies, cytotoxicity vs. viability, medical aspects of apoptosis;
