Abstract

The course introduces physiotherapy students to the methodology of physical education as an interdisciplinary field that links anthropomotorics, motor ontogenesis, diagnostics of movement prerequisites, didactics of movement activities, safe movement education, and regular school practice. Emphasis is placed on understanding movement abilities and skills, their developmental changes, testing options, and interpretation of results in children and adolescents, including people with health disabilities or specific educational needs.

Attention is paid to the specifics of communication with neurodivergent people, the school curriculum in the field of movement, and the communication tools used in the physical education process (basic gymnastic terminology) and their application across the age spectrum.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be:

  • familiar with basic definitions, differentiation, and diagnostics of motor abilities and skills (in healthy populations and populations with health limitations);
  • able to describe the stages of ontogenetic development;
  • knowledgeable about the process and phases of motor learning;
  • acquainted with current curriculum documents, methodological, and didactic approaches in school physical education;
  • aware of the specifics of communication with children, including differences in the neurodivergent population
  • able to use the basic gymnastic terminology of physical exercises correctly.

Key topics

Introduction to the subject Methodology TV I

  • Introduction to the concept of the subject and its importance for the field of physiotherapy. Physical education and movement literacy are part of primary prevention and public health support.

Fundamentals of anthropomotorics and functional movement

  • Definition of basic concepts: movement abilities, movement skills, motor performance, and movement competence. Their interpretation from the point of view of the quality and physiology of human movement.

Definition, structuring, and testing of motor manifestations

  • Classification of movement abilities and skills. Theoretical schemes of the structure of motor performance and methodological foundations of their testing in physical education practice.

Ontogenesis of human motor development

  • Overview of the laws of motor development from the prenatal period to old age. Description of the standard course of motor maturation and the development of postural and locomotor patterns.

Specifics and critical periods in motor development

  • Analysis of individual developmental phases with emphasis on childhood and adolescence. Identification of critical and sensitive periods for the development of specific motor abilities.

Theoretical foundations of testing motor abilities and skills

  • Methodology of testing in kinanthropology. Standardized motor tests and test batteries, their quality criteria (validity, reliability, objectivity), and the basics of interpreting results.

Testing and specifics of motor activities in children with health limitations

  • Methodological approaches to assessing motor skills and modifying physical activity load in children with specific needs or impairments. Safety principles and basics of adapted physical education.

Curricular documents and current legislation in school physical education

  • Overview of the system of curricular documents (RVP/ŠVP) in the Czech Republic and current changes in school physical education. Issues of health, physical education (ZTV), and the role of a physiotherapist in assessing eligibility for school physical education (exemption from physical education).

Specifics of pedagogical communication when working with children

  • Principles of educational communication, leadership, and motivation of children's groups and individuals in the physical education process. Didactic forms and methods are adequate to the age-related peculiarities of children.

Basic gymnastic and physical education terminology

  • Acquisition of standardized physical education terminology. Correct description of exercise positions, movements, and command technique for the needs of precise and safe verbal guidance of exercisers.
