- VLFA07212p Pharmacology I
Pharmacology II builds on the previous semester's Pharmacology I. - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- General Medicine (programme LF, M-VL) (2)
- Abstract
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basic pharmacological profiles of selected groups of drugs (indications, mechanism of action, pharmacokinetic properties, methods of application, adverse effects, drug interactions, and contraindications), with the principles of selecting the appropriate drug for a specific patient, and to apply theoretical knowledge at the level of selecting the appropriate drug to ensure safe and effective pharmacotherapy.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, students will have an overview of the drug groups used in clinical practice, be familiar with the basic pharmacological profiles of individual drugs, and be able to select and prescribe a medicinal product for a patient based on a known diagnosis, using the available information and a drug database. The choice of drug is based on consideration of all factors affecting its safety and efficacy.

- Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
- Participation in pharmacology exercises requires students to prepare for class by studying the study materials provided in advance in the MUNI IS. The exercises themselves further deepen theoretical knowledge by interconnecting individual topics, applying theoretical knowledge to specific examples from clinical practice, and reinforcing long-term knowledge through active learning. The instructor encourages active discussion, guides students through the resolution of individual cases with targeted questions, and responds to the needs of the seminar group being taught. At the same time, however, the instructor adheres to the pre-set schedule for each teaching unit so that uniform learning outcomes are maintained.
- Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements
Participation in exercises is mandatory. Students are allowed two unexcused absences. To obtain credit, students must successfully pass the following tests:
Prescription test - students are tasked with prescribing 2 HVLP using a drug database. The assignment includes indications and other patient information necessary for the correct selection of the drug and duration of therapy (drug form/route of administration, quantity of the product).
3x Multiple-choice test - each test contains 15 questions, the number of correct answers is specified in the assignment for each question, the pass mark is 6 points, and a total of 20 points from 3 tests. It is possible to retake one test, but only once per semester.
To obtain credit, students must meet the attendance requirement and pass all tests with a minimum total of 20 points.
- Alternate completion
- During a foreign stay, it is possible to access the seminars online. Tests are written in person after returning from the internship. This option should be discussed with the course contact person before the start of the semester.
