Course objectives
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to choose the formally correct prescription of drugs using the terminology of the valid pharmacopoeia and the preparation of dosage forms of individually and mass prepared medicinal products. He/she should understand the principles of "pharmacological thinking" in drug selection, dosage, pharmacokinetic parameter calculations, choice and technique of administration routes and should be proficient in the basic pharmacological profile of selected drug groups.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will:
- be familiar with medicinal product databases and be able to search for specific medicinal products
- distinguish between different routes of administration and dosage forms of a drug and their advantages and disadvantages
- be able to prescribe HVLP and IPLP
- know the basic pharmacokinetic processes and parameters and can determine the type of mechanism of action of specific drugs
- know the basic pharmacological profile of the drug groups discussed

Teaching methods
In the practicals, the topics discussed are practised as group and individual activities supplemented by the teacher's explanations and discussions. An essential part of the teaching is the students' home preparation for individual lessons and self-study. Students can check their readiness for the lesson by taking the ROPOT before each class.
Assessment methods
Participation in practical exercises is compulsory. The practical exercises consist of a total of three tests:

Prescription test (5th lesson)
- contains one IPP and one RMP
- for the IPP, the active substance and for the RMP, the pharmacotherapeutic group or indication
- for both products, the pharmaceutical form and the quantity of the product
- rating: pass/fail
- the time limit is 30 minutes
- can be repeated a maximum of twice

Multiple-choice tests (6th and 10th lesson)
- on knowledge of the topics covered
- the test consists of 15 questions with 3 to 5 multiple choice questions
- the number of correct answers is given in the question instructions
- marks are awarded for questions answered completely correctly (2 points)
- the limit for passing the test is 12 points
- only one of the tests can be repeated once

CREDITS
- 100% attendance at practice
- successful completion of the Prescription test
- successful completion of both Multiple-choice tests with a minimum total score of 28.

The results of the multiple choice tests count towards the final grade in Pharmacology II (ZLFA0721p)

Information for students:

Classes are held in classrooms according to the timetable listed in the IS.

Due to public holidays, some classes will be taught with other topics. The respective seminar groups will be informed of this fact by e-mail well in advance.

The teaching of pharmacology to students of dental medicine is conducted on a two-semester basis.

In the spring semester, the course is completed with credit. See above for credit requirements.

Completion in the autumn semester = rigorous examination, which consists of a pre-test and an oral part.

The oral exam consists of three randomly selected questions from the headings:

1) general pharmacology

2) special pharmacology

3) selected chapters of special pharmacology relevant to ZL students

The results of the multiple-choice test from practicals and pre-exam tests are included in the final grade, see the ZL Continuous Assessment System document in the Study materials.

The course is also listed under the following terms Spring 2007, Spring 2008, Spring 2009, Spring 2010, Spring 2011, Spring 2012, Spring 2013, Spring 2014, Spring 2015, Spring 2016, Spring 2017, Spring 2018, spring 2019, spring 2020, spring 2021, spring 2022, spring 2023.
