Course objectives
The aim of the course is to provide students with a comprehensive, evidence-based understanding of obesity as a serious chronic and multifactorial disease. The course focuses on the biological mechanisms underlying the development and progression of obesity, as well as the nutritional, genetic, behavioral, and environmental factors that contribute to its onset. It also addresses effective strategies for prevention and treatment. Special emphasis is placed on the importance of a holistic, interdisciplinary approach and on the development of practical counseling and communication skills through long-term work with a client. Students will learn to apply up-to-date scientific knowledge in designing individualized nutritional recommendations and to critically reflect on their own professional practice.
Learning outcomes
After completing the practical classes, the student will be able to:
1. Independently initiate and conduct collaboration with a client living with obesity and apply the fundamental principles of nutritional intervention in practice.
2. Systematically monitor and evaluate the course of collaboration, identify achieved changes and the factors influencing them.
3. Apply theoretical knowledge from nutrition and obesitology to the development of individualized recommendations and the support of lifestyle modification.
4. Communicate effectively and motivate the client using principles of counseling and behavioral techniques.
5. Prepare and deliver a final report and reflection on the collaboration, including evaluation of their own approach and identification of areas for further professional development.
