Abstract
The course focuses on developing language activities in the areas of reception, production, interaction, and mediation, with an emphasis on developing plurilingual and pluricultural competence. The course ends with a written test.
Learning outcomes

At the end of the semester, students will be able to:

  • understand written and spoken texts at a level C1;
  • express themselves on the topics covered in a factual and structured manner, both orally and in writing at the C1 level;
  • act appropriately in written and oral interactions;
  • convey the content of written and oral speech (text mediation); mediate communication between speakers who do not speak the same language and come from different cultural backgrounds (communication mediation)
  • use the necessary language tools meaningfully in all language activities;
  • master research techniques related to the topics covered and present the information obtained in a meaningful and interesting way;
  • argue on the basis of verified information.

Approaches, practices, and methods used in teaching
  • Action-oriented approach: language learners are seen as  "social actors" who develop their ability to act in various social situations and take an active approach to learning (e.g., in setting their own goals and self-assessment);
  • Working with textbooks, real-life tasks, use of authentic materials;
  • Group work, role-playing, dialogues, discussions, presentations.
Method of verifying learning outcomes and course completion requirements

The course concludes with a C1-level test covering comprehension, expression, interaction, and communication:

  • Written part: reading comprehension ( C1 ), listening comprehension ( C1 ), writing (C1)  
  • Oral part: speaking (interaction/mediation) (C1)  

To pass the exam, students must achieve 60% in each skill.

Regular attendance (maximum of 1 unexcused absence), active participation in class, completion of homework assignments, and completion of one mandatory written assignment and one oral assignment are also required.

Alternate completion
Students on a study abroad program will have their ISP (Individual Study Plan) recognized and will be allowed to fulfill the course requirements through distance learning, based on an agreement with the instructor at the beginning of each semester. Possible recognition of the course (as a course taken at the host university abroad) should be discussed with the instructor before the start of the semester. 


The course can be recognized upon presentation of an international language certificate at level C1 (including a score for each skill), issued within the last 5 years.
