Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the issue of people with severe disabilities and concomitant disabilities multiple disabilities in terms of education, intervention and counselling.
Learning outcomes
The student is oriented in the terminology and characteristics of people with combined disabilities, can apply counseling theories in practice.
Syllabus
  • 1. Terminological background: definition of the term severe disability, multiple diability, etiological factors.
  • 2. Characteristics of people with severe disabilities and multiple disability.
  • 3. Asssessment of a child in the pre-school age. School maturity.
  • 4. Communication of persons with severe disabilities (symptomatic speech disorders in children with cerebral palsy, general characteristics, tasks of communication, support of communication, alternative and augmentative communication).
  • 5. Support of a child with severe disabilities.
  • 6. Counselling for families with a child with severe disabilities (different areas, legislation, objectives, network, principles of advisory intervention).
  • 7. Autism - characteristics, changes in terminology, specific difficulties and support
  • 8. Child with severe visual impairment.
  • 9. Case studies, analysis of selected case studies.
