- Abstract
- At the end of the course students should be able to:
reproduce grammatical rules and paradigms studied within the course (vide syllabus of the course);
use basic Latin grammatical terminology associated with the grammar studied within the course;
apply grammatic rules to translating of concrete sentences and easy texts from Latin and translating simple sentences into Latin;
analyze sentences and utilize the analysis in translating;
compare similarities and differences between various morphological forms;
convert clauses from active to passive voice and vice versa and do similar operations (use synonymic grammatical devices etc.) - Key topics
- Introduction to Latin language, alphabet, pronuntiation and accent. Latin grammatical categories in comparison with Czech. Introduction to declension and conjugation.
- 1st declension nouns, basic prepositions.
- 1st conjugation (present, imperfect and future indicative, imperative, present infinitive); translation of passive forms, expression of agent.
- 2nd declension nouns, 1st and 2nd declension adjectives.
- Verb esse, compounds of the verb esse. Adverbs of 1st and 2nd declension adjectives.
- 2nd conjugation (present, imperfect and future indicative, imperative, present infinitive).
- 3rd declension nouns.
- 3rd and 4th conjugation, mixed conjugation (type capio) - present, imperfect and future indicative, imperative, present infinitive.
- Deponent verbs.
- 3rd declension adjectives, present participle and its use.
- Adverbs of 3rd declension adjectives, personal pronouns, possessive pronouns, demonstrative prononus is, idem, possessive genitive and dative.

- The credit is awarded for active participation in the classes and passing the control tests. Five or six such tests are written during the course. Attendance to tests is obligatory. Class attendance is obligatory, students can be absent five times without providing an excuse.
Conditions for obtaining the credit (students have to fulfill all of them):- vReach average success rate of 75% in all the tests;
- vReach success rate of 75% in the last test;
- Pass two online tests (revision after 5th and 10th lesson);
If students fail the tests, they have to pass a final comprehensive test. - Language of instruction

Tento předmět je určen primárně pro studenty oborů Latinský jazyk v prvním ročníku a pro studenty jednooborové Klasické řečtiny ve druhém ročníku. Studenti z ostatních oborů musí počítat s větším rozsahem učiva, než jaký je požadován v latinách pro nelatináře. Ve výuce se používají učební materiály, které jsou před začátkem semestru zpřístupňovány v IS MU (ve studijních materiálech předmětu). - Further comments (probably available only in Czech)

General note: Předmět je povinný pro studenty latinského jazyka a literatury a jednooborové klasické řečtiny.
