- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is only offered to the students of the study fields the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Dentistry (programme LF, M-DENT)
- Dentistry (eng.) (programme LF, M-ZL)
- Course objectives
- The course covers basic aspects of the structure and function of the immune system in humans. Topics include mechanisms of non- specific immunity with the main emphasis on the inflammatory process, such as humoral and cellular branches of the specific immune response. It includes mainly mechanisms of activation of the immune response and its regulation. Special emphasis is given to mucosal immunity and immune response to microbes and immunoprophylaxis to infectious and non-infectious diseases in the orofacial area. After finishing the course the students will understand the mechanisms of the immune response in physiology, and the knowledge will enable them to understand the immune system disturbances leading to immunopathological diseases.
- Learning outcomes
- - The student will understand the basic mechanisms of functioning of the immune system, functional characteristics of the specific and non-specific immune response, and the interrelationship of these reactions;
- The student will understand the importance of the immune system in defense against microbes, as well as the principles of active and passive artificial immunization;
- The student will become acquainted with the regional specificity of the individual compartments of the immune system with an emphasis on the mucosal immune system and the immune system of the orofacial region; - Syllabus
