Course objectives
The course PV178 Introduction to the Development in C#/.NET builds upon students’ knowledge of the basics of object-oriented programming, and extends it to the level of development of self-contained applications in C#/.NET. In particular, the course guides the students throughout the whole development process, and leads them to acquire the essential habits in building high-quality C# code in the context of individual aspects of the developed application. The course is accompanied with the employment of existing tools and technologies supporting the taught concepts in the .NET environment.

At the end of this course the student should:
be able to independently develop a simple C# application;
have the essential habits in writing high-quality C# code;
know the basic steps, tools and techniques of the C#/.NET development process.
Syllabus
  • C# programming language.
  • Life cycle and development process of a C#.NET application (MS Visual Studio).
  • Code quality - S.O.L.I.D. principles, metrics, refactoring (from patterns).
  • Systematic testing – Unit tests, Test Driven Development.
  • Error handling – programming with exceptions, logging (to a file/event log).
  • Data access (ADO.NET), file and data handling (XML).
  • Web application development in C#.NET.
  • Distributed applications, and network communication.
  • Cloud computing and application development for the cloud.
  • Programming for performance, maintainability and usability (user interface design).
