The Diploma Thesis is concerned with the translation process from both the theoretical and practical point of view and is subdivided accordingly. Irish Folk Tales and Legends - a Modern Translation

Aim of the proposed diploma thesis is a modern translation of selected Irish folk tales and legends, the main source being A Treasury of Irish Myth, Legend & Folklore: Fairy and Folktales of the Irish Peasantry by W. B. Yeats and I. A. Gregory. The book has been chosen in accordance with the tutor's recommendation as an appropriate source of old Irish tales and myths.

The translation shall be processed with respect to modern approaches in theory of translation. Building a theoretical background in this field is a part of the thesis and selected parts of the theory will be discussed along with the translation.


A succesful candidate will translate several tales or myths of their own choice and demonstrate the theoretical approaches which will have been employed on selected parts of the translated text.
