- Final state doctoral examination and defence of the doctoral thesisA student shall pass the state doctoral exam after fulfilling:
- courses specified in his/her individual study plan,
- courses of language specialisation and passing one language exam
- other courses of methodological fundaments, and other courses selected by him/her for achieving sufficient number of credits.
The exam shall be realised after completed 6th semester, until the end of the 8th semester.
The exam shall realise in accordance with individual study plan in one of three groups of themes.
The examiners ask two questions. The exam shall be a discussion. The student shall explain the questioned legal instrument in a broader context and then shall address details. Accompanying questions of examiners can address broader context, comparison with other instruments.
The exam of the students focusing in their dissertation and individual study plan in the themes of international private, procedure and commercial law shall be a discussion addressing doctrines, principles and instruments of this field of law. Beyond analyses of Czech international private law it encompasses also the EU approaches and comparative approaches at the level of big legal systems.
The exam of the students focusing in their dissertation and individual study plan on the themes of international (public) law shall be a discussion addressing sources, subjects, responsibility, relation with national laws with specific attention to Czech and EU law and particular legal framework related to selected courses and the topic of dissertation.
The exam of the students focusing in their dissertation and individual study plan on the themes of the EU law shall be a discussion addressing specifics of this supranational legal order, its application, sources, procedures, fundamental rights and basic economic freedoms and particular legal framework related to selected courses and the topic of dissertation.
A student prepares and submits the outline of his/her dissertation usually in the 4th semester. Its defense shall realise in the 5th semester. Its final version shall accompany the application to the state doctoral exam.
The defense of dissertation shall consist of the overview with eventual powerpoint presentation. The students ahall answer questions and comments in reviews. The defense shall be avaluated in accordance with these criteria.
The Masaryk University regulations for studies and examinations specify general requirements and organisation (reviews, terms). The precondition is a sufficient amount of credits and compliance with other requirements. - Requirements of the studyThe preparation of dissertation shall be realised during entire study and shall be at least 60% of activities. The segments of dessertation expect their clarification and control in fixed terms.
There are three types of compulsory and facultative courses:
(1) all-faculty courses of common core (together min. 12 credits)
(2) courses related to specialisation (together min. 48 credits)
(3) other courses (minimal 180 credits)
An individual study plan shall specify publication activities. It shall include at least: three articles in peer-reviewed journal in Czechia or abroad, two peer-reviewed papers in Czechia or obroad or book chapter. Own monograph could be partial alternative.
Significant proportion of publications shall be in English or other major language.
Students shal participate actively with contribution or similar form at five confernces at least, one should be international and one abroad.
Student shall pass study research stay abroad lasting one month at least.
