Course objectives
The course will introduce students to the theoretical approaches to and various perspectives on e-learning. The content will also include the study of strategic documents of school policy at national and European level. Examples of important topics that will be discussed include the following: What are the ways to explore e-learning, what research has already been carried out, what results has it produced, where can empirical data on e-learning be in general sought? The next part of the course focuses on practical applications of e-learning in different types of schools as well as within the framework of lifelong learning. The course will use Moodle on-line learning environment to support learning. Hence, students will be able to try out one of the e-learning options directly in real instruction. The course includes theoretical objectives (students become acquainted with the theoretical framework of the topic) and methodological objectives (students will know not only the research but also its methodology), but also practical goals (students will try out one of online learning systems).
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to: - explain and use the basic terms correctly; - explain the theoretical framework of e-learning (especially the theory of learning, also with regard to lifelong learning); - analyse current scientific knowledge (research results) of e-learning; - describe the key themes of e-learning educational policy (at national and international level); - identify and summarize the pros and cons of e-learning (not only in the school environment but also in adult education); - define and describe the roles of teacher and student; - describe the social aspects of e-learning (including potential negative uses of digital technologies in learning); - describe and explain the basic digital technologies used in e-learning; - design a course (model teaching) that will appropriately use digital technology with respect to the learning objective.
