Final state doctoral examination and defence of the doctoral thesis

The condition for submitting the application for the state doctoral examination is the fulfillment of all duties stipulated by the doctoral board. The student submits the doctoral thesis topic with the application for the state doctoral examination. The state doctoral examination, as well as the doctoral thesis defence, takes place in the Czech language, it can also be held in the Slovak language. Part of the exam is a discussion about the doctoral thesis topic. The content of the exam is knowledge of the whole area of theory of law. In the case of simultaneous submission of the application for the state doctoral examination and for the defence of the dissertation, the state doctoral examination and defence of the dissertation take place in one day. In this case, the doctoral thesis topic is not submitted. The doctoral thesis defence will take place no later than within one year of the submission of an application, unless prevented from taking place due to serious reasons.
The state doctoral examination and defence of the dissertation take place in front of the permanent examination board of the study program.

Requirements of the study

The fulfillment of study requirements is assessed by the respective number of credits. Study requirements can be divided into preparation and elaboration of dissertation, publishing of professional papers, participation in conferences, development of pedagogical skills, development of language skills associated with foreign residence and completion of professional courses of specialization and selected number of compulsory elective courses of a broader specialization. Emphasis is placed on the quality of doctoral thesis, which will be evaluated by a high number of credits in individual semesters of study (total of 140 credits). Within the framework of the study, the student will participate in grant research projects, GAMU specific research projects and in the organization of scientific conferences realized at the Department of Legal Theory.
